At Fun Snow Zone, we believe the best snow day is one where everyone comes home smiling. Snow can be great to play in, of course, but cold weather, slippery conditions, hidden hazards and dangerous slopes can easily turn an adventure into an accident.

That’s why we urge every family to make safety a part of the fun.

Our essential snow play safety rules:

Dress for the weather: warm layers, waterproof clothing, gloves, hat and snow-appropriate boots. Get out of wet clothes as quickly as possible.
Choose safe places to play. Where possible, use the designated sledging and tubing areas. Avoid roads, car parks, steep slopes, trees, fences, rocks, water and all other obstacles.
Check your kit. Use age-appropriate gear, follow the manufacturer’s instructions, and check your sledges, tubes, and all other equipment for damage before use.
Protect the little ones. Keep a close eye on the kids, particularly near slopes and when using sleds and tubes. Make sure they all know how to stop, steer, and get out of the way.
Keep snowball fights friendly: no ice, no hard-packed snowballs and no snowballs with stones or other objects in them. Never aim at someone’s face or head, and always respect someone who doesn’t want to get involved.
Build snow forts safely. Don’t build or enter any snow caves, tunnels, or other enclosed structures that might collapse. Keep your forts well clear of roads and other hazards and avoid any heavy roofs or unsupported walls.
Know when to take a break. Be on the lookout for the signs of cold stress (uncontrollable shivering, numbness, confusion, odd tiredness, etc.) and head in to warm up when needed.
Check conditions before heading out. Check the forecast (weather, daylight, snow conditions, etc.), look out for any local warnings and avoid icy or poorly visible slopes. If conditions are unsafe, stop.
Look out for one another. Share space, take turns, follow local rules, and encourage the children to tell an adult if something doesn’t feel right.
